Before we went to Hatteras I photographed a friend's family down by the river. I've known Nate and Corrine a little over three years now as we met in our childbirth education class, A Brighter Birth, when I was pregnant with Cooper and Corrine was pregnant with Keira. We realized during class that they lived right next door to our best friends, right down the street from us! Needless to say since our babies were born about 2 weeks apart we've spent the last three years getting to know them and their beautiful children. I've photographed them before, we babysat Keira for a few months, we've gone on play dates, met at the neighbor's pool countless times, Corrine has performed acupuncture on me (she's an awesome acupuncturist at Boulders Acupuncture & Natural Healthcare!) aaaaaand we've chowed down on Nate's a-ma-zing tacos! Nate owns and runs Nate's Taco Truck which is currently on a little hiatus while Nate cooks for a new restaurant in Carytown called Don't Look Back. Whether you've visited his taco truck or been to the restaurant you know that this fella can cook! We have enjoyed their family so much over the years and this recent family session was no exception. Being a lifestyle photographer there's a certain technique to getting your subjects to appear comfortable in front of the camera. I'll be the first to say that I have not yet mastered this! I myself am not comfortable having my picture taken - I much prefer to be on the other side of the camera taking pictures instead of being in them. I often ask myself what would make me more comfortable in front of the camera so that I can try these techniques on my clients... some work, some don't. But with Nate, Corrine and the kids it.just.flows. They show up happy, smiling and ready have fun. And it shows in their images. You can literally see their joy in each one. It's a real, pure, honest love that they project and I'm so, so grateful to be the lucky lady that gets to capture it.
